Spring Cleaning in Style
Revamp Your Makeup Bag, Vanity & Wardrobe with Spring Cleaning
Spring cleaning isn't just about clearing out all that clutter from the winter months and greeting spring time with a renewed sense of organization and purpose. It's also an opportunity to revamp your style and update your look with a fresh new perspective. Get started with these simple spring cleaning style tips for your makeup bag, vanity and wardrobe!
Makeover Your Makeup Bag
Did you know that your makeup’s shelf life is typically only a few months? For example, lipstick has a shelf life of one year, while liquid liner and mascara only last three months.
Makeup can be a hefty investment, which makes us less likely to throw beauty products away when they expire. But, products and their ingredients are only meant to last so long. And, the buildup of dirt, bacteria and germs from repeated use over time can make them more harmful than helpful.
Keep your skin healthy by checking the shelf life of your products and disposing of makeup on a regular basis! Plus, purging expired products gives you the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to the spring's hottest makeup trends!
In addition, clean your brushes properly after each use, or at least weekly, to make them last longer and to reduce breakouts. Put a small amount of gentle soap in the palm of your hand. Swirl the brush around until it lathers. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clean. Rinse your brush thoroughly. Squeeze out any excess water using a clean towel and air dry the brushes overnight.

Give Your Vanity a Fresh Start
Bathrooms are the smallest room in your house and they're usually stuffed with the most products because it's easy to amass a collection of beauty products and random toiletries. But you'll be healthier and happier if you keep it clean and simple.
Start by removing everything from the vanity, tub surround, medicine cabinet, and drawers.
Identify the necessities and tools you use on a daily or weekly basis for your face, body, teeth, nails and hair. Donate or pitch everything else.
If you haven't used a product or item in three months, get rid of it no matter how expensive or trendy. That includes products that you intend to use someday but won't - like reusable eyelashes or that collection of scented bath salts your mom gave you last Christmas.
Purge items that are broken or missing pieces, as well as duplicates.
Organize and properly store items like cotton swabs, hair clips and makeup brushes in clean containers. We love mason jars, but check out Pinterest for other great storage ideas.
Once you've gotten rid of the clutter and expired products, organize the remaining items in a way that aligns with how you use them. If you put lotion on while you're still in the shower, store it there instead of in your vanity. And keep in mind that items like a first-aid kit don't necessarily need to be kept in the bathroom.
Get Back to Wardrobe Basics
You want to add some new vibrant pieces from the hottest spring collection, but you've already got more clothes than you can handle. Cleaning out your closet is another great way to revamp your style and declutter your life. After all, if you're like most of us, you only wear 20% of it anyway.
To overhaul your wardrobe, take everything out of your closet and create three piles: keep, donate, and recycle.
Go through each piece one by one and ask yourself whether you've worn it in the last 12 months. If the answer is no, then put it the donate pile.
If the answer is yes, then ask yourself if the piece still fits and is in good condition. Try it on. Check it inside and out for wear and tear. Then decide whether you'll keep it, donate it or recycle it.
Same goes for your shoes. Evaluate their use, fit and condition, and discard or donate any pair that doesn't meet those standards of wearability.
No maybes. Get back to the basics and stick with classic pieces that fit, are comfortable, versatile, and of great quality.
