This year’s fall makeup trends are brimming with glitter, dark eye shadow, and slicked back hairstyles. Often, we see what designers show on the runway and think those looks are too fantastic and impractical for everyday wear. But you can replicate them in a manageable, wearable, and affordable way. All you need is the right products and a little know how.
So, let’s get started! Here are simple ways you can incorporate my top 5 fall makeup trends into your everyday life!
Summer celebrations can bring to mind fireworks, parties with volleyball, beer and great music, or paddle boarding across the lake. It can also remind you of last year when your summer makeup ended up dribbling down to your kneecaps!
What can you do to keep your makeup on with potential double-digit temperatures this summer?
Here are six practical ideas to beat the heat and look hot—in a good way.
“I can’t do my eye makeup,” said the attractive woman in my makeup chair with a groan, as she slumped down and let her high heel shoe fall off and hit the floor. She could run a successful company, raise 3 children, and teach a slamming yoga class to leave you breathless, but thought she couldn’t do her eye makeup.
“I’ve tried and tried but it just takes too long and I can’t get the liner to go straight or look normal. I’ve nearly given up,” she continued, letting the other shoe flop on the floor with a thud. “My mascara ends up down my face, my eye shadow disappears, and by 3pm I look like I just got out of bed!”
“I’ve seen this despondent look before,” I replied with a concerned expression. Handing her my silver mirror, I said, “When you leave here you will know how to make up your eyes like a badass.”
So, here are my five basic guidelines to achieving a great look with eye makeup!

I cringe whenever a trend comes out that has 17-year-old models in bright red lipstick and no eye makeup, or about an inch of black eyeliner under their eyes and no lipstick.
You can’t replicate that look on a woman over 40, no matter how beautiful she is.
Instead of trying to imitate the latest makeup trend, stick to wearable, stylish looks that emphasize the brilliant, talented and articulate person you are!
In myprevious postabout makeup tips for the over 40 crowd, we talked about how to prepare the skin properly, and then accentuate your skin and bone structure using the right combination of foundation, concealer and blush.
Today, we’re going to talk about the finishing touches – lips & eyes!
It’s been said that the longest 10 years of a woman’s life is from ages 39 to 40, and I must agree, although 49 to 50 has its challenges as well.
I can’t wear bright red lipstick anymore without looking like I drank too much for breakfast. Nor can I make up my eyes in the “smoky” look without looking like someone punched me.
It goes along with not being able to stay up all night at your brother’s Super Bowl party or wear high heel shoes all day. Your body says, “Honey, it’s over. Buy flats.”
This begs the question: how do we continue to look fabulous over 40 without looking like we’re trying too hard?
